Lune Aqueduct

Looking at the map last night, I noticed the Lancaster canal and a place nearby where it crosses the River Lune. We thought that was worthy of investigation. I've always been tickled by the idea of canals crossing rivers and this was a particularly wide and high crossing. Also not easy to do justice with a photograph.

The history of our canals, in every conceivable way, from finance to engineering to operation, is utterly fascinating. I knew nothing about the Lancaster Canal until today. I seem to be going through a Canal phase at the moment. It's fascinating to think that this stretch of water links into the Leeds and Liverpool canal back home.
