Tickled Trout
A restaurant/event space in Almondbank that used to be a linen mill, part of a network in this area from days gone by called the bleachers. Stanley Mill, part of Historic Scotland is a fabulous example . When I lived in the Letham area of Perth one of the lovely neighbours, Mrs Kettles, worked there and used to tell Laura and I stories from her time there. She was one of life’s true gems, we were lucky having her and her husband Bob, as neighbours. Bob was always on hand to lend a hand to me for anything I needed and he had a wicked sense of humour. He suffered a terrible end, he was put on medication that didn’t agree with him, made him dizzy, but he loved his walking . One of his last walks was down by the North Inch next to the River Tay, which at that time was in full force of melted snow upstream and constant rain for days. He fell in and was missing for a week. His body was found downstream. Mrs Kettles was absolutely broken hearted, they didn’t have a family of their own, and were devoted to one another. He was 67.
Anyway, we had a lunch here, my first visit. Wasn’t that impressed as there was too much greenery and only one little slice of toasted bread with roasted veg and mozzarella for £8.50. It had a good buzz about the place , lots of dogs in with their owners, all well behaved and got treats from the waiting staff.
It was another Baltic day….
