Annual leave

I’m sorry I forgot to post yesterday and then today I discovered that blip says I did post yesterday but not the 17th. I clearly posted too late on the 18th. I changed the date of this to be the 17th. 

ANYWAY.

I have a very long planned trip. It is already planned and paid for and the timing is lovely - now is a great time to not be here. When Sam died and we stopped being able to do any work I tried to extend the trip but the changes in the plane fare were too expensive. 

BUT it meant I had changed my leave to include yesterday and I’m so glad I did because I had the loveliest time with the child of my friends. These are the friends who went to Canada and weren’t 100% sure they’d come back. They came back. Yesterday they had to go to the Emergency Room. (I think everything will be fine.) You can’t really plan your emergencies but this was pretty good planning because I just happened to have the day free.

It did mean I spent the time going and having a decadent breakfast, extended conversation, and visiting a nature center instead of packing, but, like I said, the loveliest day. 

We interacted with turtles, including Pierre, who really likes humans. We almost missed the owl and the mouse but the nice woman at the desk pointed him out. We learned how horseshoe crabs eat. They don’t have teeth. They tear food apart with their legs. We learned about pyroclastic lava flow. 

We got mom and dad treats, because they had a lousy day. And now I must rush.
