WHAT'S GOING ON?

I know it's not Flower Friday.  But it's -27°F. (-33°C.) out there so I'm not heading outside to make a Blip for the day.  It's also Primary Vote day to cut down the local candidates to two for the general election in April.  Today will be the first vote I have ever missed in my life.  It's just too damn cold out there to risk a walk to the polling station.

But I saw my Thanksgiving Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) blooming in profusion in the dining room so thought it would make a good Blip.  The strange thing is that it's blooming at all.  Typically it blooms in mid-October through November....Thanksgiving time (hence the name).

I've Blipped this plant before and told the story that I got it from my mother who got it from her mother, my grandmother.  It's easily 100 years old and at one time was so large it literally outgrew its pot and took over the living room.  So I made some cuttings, rooted them in a vial of water and then planted them.  It was rejuvenated and has been blooming like crazy.  No blooms at Thanksgiving but buds appeared in December and now it's in full bloom.  Perhaps it's just trying to ......catch up.

BEST IN LARGE.
