Praying for SOULS on the SOLES of Your Feet

Before the marathon of cooking for Camp begins, M and I did a little sightseeing - got as far as Godshill (more to do with "gods" than "God's" - bit of a witchcraft centre, apparently). Walked past all the perfectly preserved thatched cottages and up the steps to the church - loved this monument at the front.

It is of Sir John Leigh and his wife, Agnes, and has a unique bit of mediaeval punning - on the soles of his feet are Weepers, two monks praying for his soul. The alabaster effigies were described by John Oglander as the fayrest tombe in owre Islands.
