The Door of No Return: Goree Island, Senegal

I have been blessed that two of the links in my life's chain have brought me to Goree Island, Senegal and this doorway.

You may recognize it from the photos recently in the media of US President adn Mrs. Obama standing in it, but from the other side. Selfishly I like my perspective better :-)

Through this door passed multitudes of Africans destinted for a life of enslavement. Perhaps in the US, Brazil, a Caribean nation, or some other location.

The fellow in the picture, now sadly departed this earth, was as moved as anyone I have seen in 'the door'.
