Diary of an Edinburgher

Everybody’s job!

A bit of snow this morning! Didn’t amount to much, though. Arch and I took a walk out.

I was wearing my £15 shoes, which are slightly too big for me, but I’ve tried insoles, heel grips, individually and both at once - nothing worked. The heel grips I got at the chemist were about 1cm - far too thick, but that was all they had. But now I have proper ones, the new shoes are fine. What a saga.

Another saga is our bank accounts. They have a very snazzy app, but I needed help on Saturday, and again today. Probably I could have phoned to fix it, but our bus stops right at their door, so no problem.  Also I had a bonus visit to Prêt…

Back home and as I walked along the road frequented by the local school kids, I noted, as usual, discarded crisp bags, sandwich bags and general ‘unhealthy-food-type’ rubbish - ie: teenagers. Today I snapped, and rang the school to complain. I asked if not dropping litter in the neighbourhood was ever mentioned at assemblies.

No, that’s really the parents’ job.’
‘No it’s everybody’s job.’
‘And anyway, there’s litter all over the place and in the Meadows…’
‘Exactly!’
‘But we’re very keen on recycling at the school…’

They took my name and phone number. Somebody higher up might get back to me. I did actually visit the headmaster several years ago, when he told me I should be delighted to have the school there, as it pushed up house values in the area.
