The Beacon
Cold and clouded in today, seemed to barely get light. They day disappeared somewhere but we managed to get out for a walk up onto Beacon Hill. On the top is The Beacon, a monument constructed in 1719. Signalling beacons have been on this site since the 13th Century, part of a chain of Beacons to warm of impending invasion.
The last major firing of the beacon was in 1745 signalling the Jacobite rebellion.
There are fine views to the north and west although not today
