That north easterly brought tremendous gusts in the night and snow on our high Tosco-Romagnoli Appennini. I spent the day huffing and puffing with the downed terracing. Not a day goes by I don’t admire the tenacity of those tenant peasant farmers building cultivatable land from a one in three slope. Mostly abandoned now and wooded under oak regrowth they are a testament to, well, bygone ways.
