Lowther Castle
Jess was running in the Lowther estate with Eden runners today, I went for a wander out along the river. A few buzzards were on patrol and I saw evidence of Beavers - a couple of trees felled. Apparently they were released into a secure area a few years ago, clearly they have now escaped!
Here is Lowther Castle, the Earl of Lonsdale's country house. Hugh Lowther the 5th Earl of Lonsdale was the last of the family to live there until his extravagant lifestyle caught up with him and he could no longer afford to run it. James Lowther inherited the castle in 1953 with death duties totalling £25million which he avoided by removing the roof and much of the stonework. A sad end to a once magnificent building.
You pay tax through your life and then your family continue on your behalf after your death...
