Heading home
Our short but very enjoyable visit to York ended with a train journey back to Edinburgh and this was our transport arriving at York station - not just wide for the Wide Wednesday challenge but also very long . ( and fast ! )
Our day started much earlier than expected not very long after 5 am to the sound of horse’s hooves and a loud man’s voice outside. After a while I looked out of the bedroom window and the road below was lined with police on either side some carrying standards and they were being instructed in a military type drill. It soon became obvious this was a rehearsal for a funeral at the Minster which was just across the road with a piper leading 4 police horses , the hearse and the rest of the funeral cars followed by many police. Sadly it transpired this was in preparation for the funeral tomorrow in York Minster of a York police woman killed at a road accident with a full ceremonial police funeral and around 800 people attending .
The rehearsal was repeated possibly at least 4 times and was still ongoing at least 4 hours later. I took the extra from the dining room as it was concluding while we ate breakfast.
