Diary of an Edinburgher

Connemara!

We're now in our lovely wee cottage right by the sea in Connemara. It's so peaceful, with glorious views all around. I may never leave. And I think that's what happened to G many years ago, whose house it is. G is in Edinburgh to see her daughter in a show (which has had rave reviews in other places). This epitomises why house swapping is the Best Idea Ever. She gets to stay in a nice flat, walkable to the venue, and to bring her friends from England. We get to stay in an amazing, comfortable cottage in a beautiful place we'd never have thought of going to.

We had a peaceful night in the student digs, with a breakfast thrown in (excellent self service, not thrown at all) and set off on the road in good time to get here before G left for the airport. We were welcomed with a basket of fresh scones, home made Irish soda bread, and a wine. House swappers always leave a wee something, but this was the best ever! It's also just great to meet the person who's going to be in your house.

We've just had a walk down to the wee harbour. The weather couldn't be better- hot, sunny, fluffy white clouds, warm breeze. I intend to be sitting out waiting for the sunset with a glass of wine in my hand. That first real Irish Guinness will have to wait another day...

This isn't our cottage, just one on the walk.

Things just got even better. I heard barking, and looked out. There was a big collie dog sitting at our back door! What more could I want?
