Edinburgh, a City of Roadworks

It could have been a very depressing Sunday. The weather was dreich,  damp and totally dismal but in fact the day turned out to be so enjoyable. There was the usual coven of Merry Widows in the morning and after lunch Daughter #2 picked me up to go to Porty daughter’s birthday get  together in her new flat which I hadn’t yet seen. Her siblings turned out in numbers to celebrate only missing her Elgin brother and Yorkshire  sister.

I think my bus journey to Portobello is a long and tortuous one but when your daughter opines that the centre of Edinburgh is too busy to negotiate (maybe Rugby?)and she intends to take the Ring Road, then I was in for a tour of the further reaches of Edinburgh  with numerous road works and long tail backs included for interest. I’m still not quite sure how this detour was supposed to be preferable to getting through town but if you are getting a lift in a warm car it’s best to keep you mouth shut.

It was all great fun, aided by quantities of Prosecco and cake, not for my driver though  I have to add, she only got the cake. When we left we went straight through town and were home in the blink of an eye. My mouth is still shut but I can’t help a bit of a smirk.
