A lovely day
Which started at the tip (recycling centre) at 8am with the latest piles of rubbish. Then cleaning and tidying all morning to get ready for a visitor - my son L who is here for 24 hours. We spend the afternoon playing each other tunes. I was pleased to find he didn’t know some of the ones I played (my repertoire is growing because of choosing the warehouse music on Tuesday mornings). But he bested me because some of the tracks he played were his own tunes.
Then, despite the freezing cold drizzly weather, we went down to the city centre for an evening of eating at Mowgli (gorgeous Indian street food) and looking at a few more of the light festival installations. One of the nicest this year, also one of the simplest, is a rotating heart reflecting snowflake shaped dots of light onto St Stephens church, while playing Motown songs and KC and the Sunshine Band and other disco delights.
Then on to the city hall where the moat is temporarily full of flamingos. Finally to the centre of broadmead shopping centre, where there is a construction of very strong flexible material with constantly moving lights a bit like stars. It’s interactive and massive very fast swirls appear if someone pushes into the material. Easily the best thing at the festival, with the disco at the church a close second. L explains to me how it’s a visual representation of how gravity works - and I really try to understand…..
