Kovalam Day 3
I slept well again last night and headed across to breakfast, they had puri this morning but they were very sad and soft compared to the freshly produced ones I'll have next week in Tirunelveli.
The bottom right picture shows a part of the morning breakfast entertainment as the fishing boats bring in their catch. The net is still well out to sea, but the boat and crew are in. All the crews help each other to haul in the nets, singing and chanting as they do so. You can see by the coils of rope in the thumbnail just how much they have already pulled in.
When I got back to my room after breakfast jetlag suddenly caught up with me so I went for a lie down and woke up at lunch time!
I had a light lunch then went for a wander up the very steep hill to some of the other local shops. The little pond is in the grounds of one of my favourites, Fab India. An Indian chain which now has branches in several other countries, there's a branch in London that I'm aware of.
I didn't buy!
The other picture is of the walkway along the front of the beach, the seller of peacock feather fans is having a rest- his wares will be familiar to you Hazelh. The man beyond him is a roasted peanut and chickpea seller, he has a large wok of each and sells them in wee newspaper pokes.
I went for a swim when I got back, We've realised the new sun umbrellas are not as good as the old as they have fixed poles. The position is already fixed as they fit into pre-made holes in the terrace. The old ones have the facility to change the angle at the join half way up, which makes it much easier to dodge the sun. The new ones will need to have the beds moved around them throughout the day - much more complicated .
I waked along to the Sunset Cafe for dinner tonight and had butter chicken, quite delicious.
On the way back I spotted my final picture at the entrance to the hotel. Can you see two geckos?
Tomorrow is my last full day in Kerala, on Monday I head through to Tamil Nadu.
