A chilled day then drumming

We had a really nice chilled day around the hotel and at 4 left with the group in a minibus for a farewell get together at the seaside area of La Boquilla, once a fishing village.

There was a nice warm sea breeze. We sat on plastic chairs in the sand to be entertained by a group of local youngsters taken in by a social service type of group. They learned music and dancing from the Spanish era but mostly their influence was African. They were really good.

We didn’t realise we were going to be taught 3 types of drums and had to perform a routine. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it as I’m not at all musical. Mr C took the role of official photographer and took some videos of us. I was in a group with Carmel, Sasha, Nick and Mark. Each group “learned” the 3 types of drums. We played till after sunset. It was really pleasant by the sea.

Afterwards we had an early dinner there of very frazzled snapper and rice with a beer, then the bus took us back to the hotel. A few of us went out to the square where we had a drink and watched a Michael Jackson impersonator them some drummers and dancers.

A lovely last night.
