Time to Spend
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
I spent time today with a wonderful bunch of women friends, zany, creative, interesting and warm people, who have all survived the Christchurch quakes well, and who love being together, enjoying life. We went up to Hanmer Springs for the day, spending a couple of hours wallowing in the hot pools, having a superb picnic lunch (together with gluhwein supplied by Jamazen) under the huge old oaks, and then a walk for some, photography for others, and some shopping. The quakes were hardly mentioned and a great time was had by all.
This quote is so appropriate for those who have been through the quakes, and who are still living through the aftermath of trying to move on, get things repaired, and get back on their feet. We all wish it hadn't happened in our time, of course we do, but it has - and today we really made the most of the time that was given to us. Yay!
Talking about time - it sure ticked by quickly - in no time at all it was time to go home.
