Butterfly.

By a friend of a friend I met at the weekend I was very kindly invited to join a group going out for a fancy dinner. ‘Chef is making a special menu for us.’

I’m usually at home eating slices of cucumber and squares of cheese and I don’t like indulgence or fancy stuff. But I couldn’t reject the kindness and I wanted to keep up the weekend’s two-day sociable streak.

‘Shirt shoes should be good’. Cue some rummaging in my cupboard. What the bloody hell are shirt shoes?

In the end, it was of course, fun, and I’m grateful to have met some more friendly faces in Dar es Salaam. The icing on the cake was this large painting clocked on the way out of the hotel of the Tanzanian President Samia Suhulu Hassan having a moment with a butterfly. Very gentle scenes as I shuffled past in my shirt shoes.
