Hope someone knows what they are doing
This was a car park in Appleby. It wasn't actually used too much as most people (not me) would prefer to spend ages looking for and trying to get into spaces on the roadside than pay (not a lot) for parking. Anyway no one can park there at the moment as it is full of machinery and stuff.
My dentist is opposite the car park and from the lovely Sam the hygienist's window upstairs you get a good view. She told me they were putting pipes under the car park and building a pumping station and then adding an outfall.
Of course this is all part of a massive Flood Risk Management Scheme which has taken over Appleby and will continue to do so for some time to come. The idea I think is that, when the river floods, water will go through the pipes to the pumping station and will then be released back into the river further down (so it can flood somewhere else perhaps!!)
