MONO MONDAY - AND ON THEME - YAY!
First of all, apologies for not commenting yesterday but thank you for all your positive and lovely comments about my Church collage, all of which were much appreciated.
We went out for a Thai meal last night with friends but I was too tired when we got back to do any commenting, but then decided at 11 o’clock, when Mr. HCB went up to bed, that I would try once more to crack the password on my main password keeper, and I DID IT! Then I needed to sort out my gmail emails because they weren’t coming up on my new iPhone, so by the time I had done that as well, I didn’t go to bed until 2.15 a.m. so felt a tad tired this morning.
BUT...having made up my mind to do some more decluttering, the kitchen was on my list. Mr. HCB said he was happy to help (but sometimes, I feel I do it better on my own, but wouldn’t want him to feel upset, so am crossing this out - ha ha!) He did do a lot of the bending and getting down to clean out the cupboards, bless him, so perhaps I couldn't have managed as well on my own!
I had thought I would photograph my green bananas and took lots of shots of them, but then found these four green kitchen utensils, so changed my mind. I have put a shot of the actual utensils in colour as an extra, so you can see I am being honest and hope that Heanku will be happy with my “Green but in black and white” shot.
I also wanted to share with you something I watched on Saturday, after reading Bel Mooney’s column in the Saturday Daily Mail - but please don’t judge me if you read The Times or The Guardian - I certainly wouldn’t judge anyone for the newspaper they read!
Bel was writing about Michael Longley, one of Northern Ireland’s foremost contemporary poets, who was born on July 27, 1939 and who died on 22nd January this year, aged 85 and her article was headed, “Farewell to a Poetry Genius I truly adored”. She said, “In 2012, Robin and I met Michael and his distinguished wife, Edna, on a coac trip to the melancholy battlefields of Northern France,” saying she didn’t bargain for the warmth and friendship that followed.
She then said “If you want to be uplifted, awed, calmed and charmed in equal measure, try to catch the beautiful documentary, Michael Longley - Where Poems Come from on BBC iPlayer.”
I decided to look up this programme and it was truly delightful. Whilst watching I thought of two Blip friends, both of whom I knew would love this programme - wrencottage and Rainette - so hope they can watch it. I will be interested to hear their comments and from any others if you get to watch it - although I know that people who read my Blips across the world may not be able to. This is the LINK.
The decluttering went very well and we now have three boxes of various kitchen utensils, dishes, plates and other odd paraphernalia including a pyrex mixing bowl given to us as a wedding present 57 years ago. I have tried not to be sentimental about various things - and in fact, the aunt and uncle who gave us this bowl have both died, so I don’t feel too badly about giving it to our favourite charity shop, DEBRA!
Hope you all have a great week - lunchtime now and then I am going to do some more decluttering - I’m in the groove now! M xx
