Saved by Smudgy
Rescued by Smudgy owl, a glorious, but tricky afternoon. a.k.a I chose the "wrong" spot to stand... across the road two different barn owls put on a wonderful show, Hillyblips got a glorious shot of one of the Barnies here
The road was busy with twitchers and other photographers so we waited and hoped that someone would cooperate and come closer for us. Thankfully as the light faded Smudgy owl came to our rescue. Named in honour of the darker plumage and darker feathers on the face. Sadly I've never seen the owls sat next to each other so can't guess the whether male or female. The female birds are bigger than the males the books suggest, however colour variations are present in both sexes so not a reliable distinguishing factor.
Extras of Pale Owl and a few more from Smudgy Owl's pass.
Hope you had a good day.
