Today I spent the morning programming and sending emails, one of which was to give my intern information about local hiking possibilities. I also watched the final overs of England's embarrassing performance in the women's test match. After putting up a wash and having some lunch, I took the bus to Bonnyrigg, where Rose were playing Clyde.
Bonnyrigg began well, with an early goal, which led to a comedy moment. As all the players were heading back to restart the game, a Clyde player was still lying near the corner flag, close to where I was watching. I think he was hoping that the referee would deduce that he'd been fouled in the build-up to the Bonnyrigg goal. It took a moment for the referee to notice, and when he came back and stood over the player, I'm sure he asked, "Are you still breathing?" Eventually one of the Clyde physios came over, and the player was soon on his feet. This penalty after 30 minutes, put away by the ever-reliable Neil Martyniuk, gave Rose a lead that should have been comfortable. However, in the very scrappy second half, Clyde started to come back into the game and their goal led to an anxious last fifteen minutes. I was pleased to see Keiren McGachie come on as a late substitute: not as an impact player, but as a wise old head to help see out the match. As the players came off, it was only his autograph that they kids were wanting (see extra)! Legend!
Although I was cold, and it was going dark, I then ran 7.2km of the 10km back home (in 40:30). I was also Turfing - which adds about 30s to each km - and I started walking after I lost my momentum due to a GPS issue at a zone. Training-wise, I knew that I'd done enough, and I was pleased with my speed between the zones.
