The Long Way Around . . . The Chicks
Richmond to Lake Ohau Lodge 709 kms
This morning we loaded our gear into the truck and headed south. The traffic was fine and the cloud cleared to blue skies. We had our morning tea at the usual stopping place on the Lewis Pass. The run down down to the Canterbury side was easy and then we noticed the increase in traffic. South of Christchurch until we turned off to Geraldine there was an insane amount of traffic. Every reduced speed area led to the lines of traffic bunching up and crawling along. It was a relief to head inland and have less traffic. When we reached Lake Tekapo the sky and lake were almost the same colour. 1st extra Lake Pukaki.
The drive into Lake Ohau was great with the wide valley bottom flanked by bare hills. The main blip is the view from our room. Not too bad. We had a quick spruce up and then met the other members the group and went into dinner. The lodges other guests are bikers doing the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.
