New kicks and old tricks

I have always loved football and been happy to watch all levels of the game from grassroots right up to the Premier League.

Can’t be doing with all the histrionics, verbal abuse and some of the faux machismo that goes with it (again, at all levels of the sport), but when the game is just played it is great to watch and - to my mind - even more fun to play.

When I was younger there was a point where I would play two full matches in a day and still have the energy to go out of an evening, but those days are long since passed.

This evening however one of the very nice chaps/dads from The Youngest’s school had pulled together enough people for a five aside session. Having arrived and compared our new indoor trainers (it did make me laugh as two of the chaps were wearing a pair of trainers that I would have gone for, but they were out of my size, so I had to go for these ones), we split into teams and got down to it.

There followed approximately 45 minutes of the hardest physical exercise I have done in a long while, but it was tremendous fun and we all seemed to be of a similar level. The “other” team won in the end, but as we all stood around panting, sweat cascading down us and cursing the organiser’s name, we all agreed it was great and that we’d like to make it a regular thing.

I’m sure all my muscles and things will start working again soon…..
