Sun and Snow
I was woken at 6 o'clock by the rumble of our neighbour's snow plough clearing our path. It was still very dark, but I got the message that it had snowed a lot during the night. I quickly went back to sleep, but when I woke properly it was a gloriously sunny day.
Bright sun and new snow everywhere - an almost perfect day! The main photo is taken out of a window. Initially it was the interesting shadows on the snow but then I noticed a squirrel had left a slightly frantic track, coming out of a rose bush at the top of the picture, sliding down a rock and springing past the handrail down to the cleared path.
We took a pre-breakfast walk into the sun and snow. We got to see a snow blowing machine clearing the road and raising a huge cloud of snowy spindrift. Then Jan looked up and saw a golden eagle. It was riding the stiff breeze, gliding, flapping, wheeling around in the sky. It was pretty low at first so we could clearly see the wing marking and the size of the bird. They are unusual in this area, except in the autumn when they are migrating south. The ones that overwinter in the north are mostly further north, or inland. I hope it found a meal after it sailed away over the forest.
When we got home I set another sourdough going, then it was out to clear the snow down to the cellar etc.
Another walk in the afternoon still marvelling at the beauty of all this new snow.
The extras show more of the day, including our neighbours cottage recently blipped at night, but now in full sunlight.
We do live in a nice place!
