Only Fools And … Flamingos

After we dropped Sophie at school, we caught the bus to Bristol as we had matinée tickets for Only Fools And Horses The Musical at the Hippodrome.

We arrived in plenty of time for a wander round the Harbour area and College Green where this flock of flamingos were standing in the moat in front of the Council Offices. Apparently they are part of one of the displays for the Light Festival which starts this weekend.

The musical was really entertaining, with Paul Whitehouse excellent as Grandad / Uncle Albert and a versatile cast doing brilliant impersonations of the original characters.

We had dinner afterwards by the harbour.

We got home to a nice surprise: not only had our Japan Rail Passes arrived but in the same post was a cheque from the company who handled Tess’s Mum’s estate when she passed away, which happens to be 10 years ago this Friday. Apparently they have been pursuing PPI claims on behalf of clients.

The amount they had reclaimed for us was almost exactly the same as the cost of a rail pass. Pure coincidence of course but it’s rather nice to think that her Mum has been looking down and wanting to make her contribution to what is Tess’s 70th birthday trip.
