“Houhere” or the “Narrow-leaf Lacebark” tree and aka “Hoheria augustifolia” is in flower in the Taylor River Reserve at present. When closely seen, the flowers are pure white and exquisite. Traditionally, Maori use the fine lace-like inner bark of the Houhere for very fine weaving of kete, headbands, and trim on hats and coats. A truly beautiful tree.
