Geisha

Today’s art class stayed in Japan, but this time journeying into the world of the geisha, the hostesses trained in traditional Japanese performing arts styles, such as dance, music and singing with their distinct appearance characterised by long, trailing kimono, and traditional hairstyles and make-up.

The class was focussed on drawing, using watercolour pencils to provide the colour.  It was nearly a disaster for me when I realised that instead of black watercolour pencil for the hair I was using a pastel pencil … a very different medium (I wasn’t the only one to use the wrong one!) After advice and encouragement from the tutor however I continued with the correct pencils and after around 3 hours work managed to complete this piece.
