A perfect morning
for paint and plein air friends to
enjoy together
~carliewired
I didn't know if I was actually going to go out the door this morning. I was up drinking coffee before 8. My recliner was really comfortable. I really didn't feel like getting dressed to go out. I had a plein air date so I left the house at 9:15 heading for the Territorial Prison near the downtown.
It's been several years since I've been in this tourist attraction. It's a combination of a park, a museum and an historical site. We weren't sure what views we could paint but thought we should give it a try. At first we'd thought we'd like to paint up in the guard tower with a view to the Colorado River. Once up there, it seemed cold and drafty, so we moved down into the site. We found ourselves at the far west corner with a view to the Bridge and the St. Thomas mission on the California side of the river. We were just a small group of 5 today.
I sketched a bit while sitting overlooking the river. When I got tired of that, I took my camera for a walk around the property. I noted the large white birds on the pond across the river. They were a small flock of pelicans. They land at home in both ends of migration, so I was tickled to find them here too. We watched several eagles hunting over the river, too. They were a mix of ages.
No one had time for lunch today, so I got back on the Interstate and came home. I'm here for the day now.
