Games Hat ?

An idea for a games hat to wear at our games evening next week. The only thing permanent at the moment is the white squares. I need permission from my kids who now have their own kids to use the Hero quest characters. Chess pieces are from my Staunton set, so I am looking for an alternative as I don't want to loose any !!
