Between the squalls

i timed it just right to get a walk today, first thing howling winds and tipping rain so I sat fast and did some emails.  And then W and I had a glorious walk through soggy woods but on the hill as well and over some heath.  I put the dog into his rain coat just in case, he crawls submissively to be fitted, resigned to it.  It is really just to keep mud out of the house as dachshunds can very quickly get filthy.

I then did some calls and drove to Mum’s through heavy rain.  After lunch we sat and stuck photos back into her albums. Time, and central heating have caused a lot of them to fall out.  Not the ones put in in the early days of their married life, glue was sturdier then, but from the 80s onwards.  It made me appreciate the colours of digital photography, so many of the early colour photos have faded.  And my father was master of the wide shot so there’s a lot of us as small figures in front of a river and flowerbed.  And not many of him, the man behind the camera.  He would occasionally hand it to my mother and pose, often without his glasses,  so it’s like looking back at a handsome stranger who looks quite like my father.

Had an important call mid afternoon and worked through to dinner.  The wind is up again quite ferociously.
