Famous in Queensbury!
Windy Bank in Queensbury is quite notorious as far as roads go...
It's 0.63 miles long but with an average gradient of 10% and an elevation gain of 331 feet it's quite the incline. The hairpin at the bottom is 22% in gradient!
When it snows, it's the first place Queensbury locals question in terms of safety...although it is all tongue in cheek. However, people do always attempt it in the snow and ice...only to find themselves stranded!
The other claim to fame of Windy Bank is the fact it crosses the Calderdale and Bradford council boundaries. Last year this resulted in the top half being resurfaced whilst the bottom section, where the road is ironically worse, wasn't touched. Bradford did the top, Calderdale haven't touched the bottom.
What fun!
