Country Kirkyard
It never ceases to amaze me how much history is to be found in even the smallest kirkyard. Here at Rathen graves include those of a General who served in the Crimean War but died whilst grouse shooting, a local farmer's son who became a wine merchant in Calcutta and died on the voyage home a weaver, an inspector of commutation roads, a coast water ( an official responsible for overseeing the loading and unloading of cargos at a time when before the coming of the railway goods were moved around the country by sea.)The great great grandparents of Edward Grieg are buried here - the extras show an enhanced image of the inscription on their grave and a recent commemorative information panel by the Grieg Society of Scotland.
