Park Güell
Today was C’s Celebration of Life back in Glasgow which I was very sorry to have missed. Catherine introduced me to tramping the edgier streets of the city which gave me a desire and confidence to explore new territories, often solo.
I spent the morning in Parc Güell which started out as a housing scheme, only two houses were completed, Gaudi living in one of them. I was very taken with his viaducts inhabited by aloe vera plants, and the parakeets which swooped through the arches carrying nest building material.
Maxing out my metro pass I took the funicular up to Montjuïc and explored the Olympic Port Park and the Olympic and Sports Museum. Highlights included a pair of Rafa Nadal’s Nike tennis shoes and various interactive bits of equipment that measured your capacity for speed and agility, mental and physical. Being the only person there I enthusiastically participated. My jumping skills need development.
A brief visit to Gaudi’s Casa Batlló, very busy, and then the Mercado de La Boqueria which was too frenetic for me and I called it a day.
Tasty tapas and vino blanco for tea/supper/dinner and a diverting conversation with two Americans from Las Vegas at the next table. They were interested in haggis of all things. They must have know it’s Burns Night.
The high winds in parts of the UK have made it to the Spanish TV news channels.
