Eventful
It was a rather eventful day. I didn't fancy doing a peloton workout in the morning, so since the weather seemed fine I thought I would have a long cycle instead, around the cycle paths. This would allow me to view the recently opened Roseburn link. The new bridge over the railway is pictured as the filling in my "sandwich" blip. However, just after I took the picture of the bridge, I had a puncture in my front tyre. Not a slow one, but an almost instantaneous complete flat. There was presumably some glass on the road.
Checking maps, I could see that the closest bike shop was Biketrax at Fountainbridge, about 15 minutes walk away. Luckily, when I got there, someone dropped what he was doing and immediately fixed my puncture. They have a nice cafe upstairs and they told me to go up and have a coffee, which is free if you are having work done. So for £19, I got a coffee, a puncture repair including a new inner tube, and the opportunity to miss a meeting which I wasn't that keen on going to anyway. And free wifi on which to catch up with my emails whilst I waited. Overall, a win win situation, I would say. I was quite tempted to set my office up there for the day.
As the day moved on, it became apparent that Friday's Storm Éowyn looked set to be a big thing, with red warnings, text alerts, and transport and businesses all closed. A closure of the university for Friday was also announced (eventually....).
However, luckily the storm did not disrupt our 10 year celebration of Book Group, which started in the Conan Doyle and moved afterwards to a Syrian supper put on by the Cyrenians at Coffee Saints. Pictures from that are the bread in my sandwich blip. I was delighted to be on the winning team in the quiz. I dredged a few bits and pieces out of my memory to help.
Home for Mr A to say "what text alert?" He'd never had it. It arrived, I'm afraid, at 3am on Friday, waking us with an appalling start (regular readers will know that we are somewhat allergic to alarms going off in the night). While by that stage there was no sign of any wind outside, it still took me a very long time to go back to sleep.
