Snowscape
Shadows on snow make having a snow-covered yard worthwhile. Early morning, before the sun gets too high and strong is the best time. Trying for a full range of greys, from the darkest to the lightest, always reminds me of my photography teacher in art school. He did not like "flat" photos! (Photos with a narrow range of greys.) He taught us the Ansel Adams "zone system". With this system Adams was able to perfectly control the contrast in his black and white photos. Adams base rule was: “Expose for the shadows; develop for the highlights.” The zone-system of Ansel Adams divides the photo into eleven zones; nine shades of gray, together with pure black and pure white. This photo probably wouldn't have passed Adams' test, but I am pleased with it. (I just noticed that at the top of the photo there appears to be a face!)
