Apple phone feature I love
In settings, in wallpaper, I had an option to have the phone choose pictures from my landscapes. Now I get to see pictures I haven’t seen in ages, from perspectives I have never seen. The algorithm does a neat job of cropping so I really do see them anew.
I miss taking care of Sam. I miss carrying him down the stairs. I miss him seeing me and standing up and I miss seeing him and I miss trying not to disturb him when I come into the room.
I also think I’ve numbed myself and it hasn’t fully hit.
Today the DEI staff learned they will be put on administrative leave, beginning tonight, while the heads of agencies are supposed to figure out how to fire them. Today we were asked to name the people who just started their jobs this year and can be terminated more easily. Today I let the very eager, hard working young man who is visiting us from another agency and wants to work for us long term know that there is a hiring freeze and it may be a while before that can happen.
But focusing on this exact moment, I’m absolutely fine. I ate today. I’m in my warm, sturdy house. I am making plans to see friends. There is a wooly mammoth in Baltimore.
“Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK said on Wednesday it plans to invest 450 million Euros ($468.59 million) to expand a wind farm near the Black Sea coast, boosting its capacity.
DTEK, most of whose thermal generation capacity has been damaged or destroyed by Russian bombardments, said it would expand its Tyligulska Wind Power Plant from 114 MW to 500 MW.
The company, which is owned by Rinat Akhmetov who is Ukraine's richest man, said it had reached a financing deal with lenders for the purchase of 64 wind turbines from Danish manufacturer Vestas (VWS.CO).”
October 18, 2023 a Russian Mi-8 helicopter disappeared in Crimea. It turns out the deputy air defense officer on duty got an alert about a low-flying, low-speed aerial target and thought it was a drone and had it destroyed with a missile. He’s going to prison. This of course means that others will be hesitant to shoot at things they think are drones. Russia has a lot of friendly fire incidents.
I reported before about Ukraine destroying fancy Russian radar systems. Oct 3 they did another type, a Nebo-M radar station. This makes it easier for Ukraine to do other attacks because it hurts Russia’s ability to detect and intercept. This would be a $100 million radar station. Footage of this attack began circulating Dec 15th. Thank you to the US ATACMS. Ukraine destroyed another Nebo in April. No surprise, Ukraine used drones. Nebo means sky.
