History and Hedges
I had a checkup at the dentist this morning. I was running a little early so I had a walk around Havant. It has some diverse and interesting architecture. This here is the front facade of the Post Office building opened in 1936. Its modernist architecture is striking, as is the brickwork, but it’s most often referred to because it displays the cipher of Edward VIII - who reigned from 20 January to 11 December 1936 before abdicating and marrying Wallis Simpson in France.
I spent the afternoon continuing to cut back and improve the hedge in the back garden. I’m getting there but it’s one of those jobs which it’s helpful to do in stages so you can reflect on what you’ve done and consider what to do next, rather than cut it back too far or in the wrong places and have regrets. I alternated hedge cutting with bread making, and all turned out well!
For dinner tonight we had shakshuka - a North African dish of flatbread with spicy tomatoes, red pepper and onion, and egg. I supplemented mine with spinach.
A cold, damp and grey day.
