Marjorie's ramblings

I slept very well last night and acquired only a couple more bites!

I have the morning sunrise shoot a miss and allowed myself 2 more hours sleep. There was packing to finish, but most importantly, I wanted to photograph the weaver birds before it was too bright.

One of the waiters was keen to show me the best place and it worked well. There was still a lot of backlighting from the sky so I overexposed the images to show the plumage.

The males are busy building. There was not a female in sight, so I assume they have spa days or the equivalent before arriving, inspecting the nest and pulling it apart if it is not up to standard!

One male was building a nest that still had gaps in the side. I noticed that he kept flying to another nest. Was he building two? No, he was taking bits from one to make the other.

Then I saw a different weaver building the nest that was being robbed! Fascinating.

We had a long, very hot drive to our next lodge at Spitzkoppe. We are hoping for rain tonight because is is very hot here and there is no air conditioning. There are clouds building and the wind is getting up.

We went out onto the rocks nearby for a sunset shoot. It became chilly in the wind but we enjoyed a beer before returning for dinner.
