Galette des Rois

A French tradition is to eat Kings Cake on the 12th night of Christmas (Epiphany) - Basically a pie with flakey pasty filled with frangipan (soft marzipan) and optionally apple.

Tomorrow our friends Catherine & Didier with their son Lilian are coming round for a belated birthday celebration. I always love to have a galette des rois on my birthday, so here we have Mme MB and Emma preparing one for us. Home made is better than the shop bought ones.

We've had to provide our own fève to go in it (a small porcelin figurine or miniature). The one that has the fève in their piece of cake is the King (or Queen) for the day. Another French tradition.
Luckily we have a collection of fèves from past galettes.
