Pinus montezumae 'Sheffield Park'

This plant, growing by the lake at Lime Cross Nursery, is one of the first (if not the first) of the grafted specimens propagated by the late (and still very much missed) Jonathan Tate from a tree growing in the garden at Sheffield Park that has traditionally been identified as an example of Pinus montezumae.

Interestingly, nothing quite like the tree at Sheffield Park has ever been found growing in the wild, either amongst the wild population positively identified as P. montezumae, or under any other identification, so research is ongoing as to what the actual identity of the SP specimen might be.

Mrs Catspaw and I extend our thanks to Lime Cross co-owner Vicky Tate for her hospitality and for showing us round the site today.
