Continuing the local history guide
I’ve volunteered at the Winchester Basics Bank this morning. I’d offered last week to bring cake so that the visitors to the church could have coffee and some cake. The banana loaf was enjoyed by many people.
Murphy has been to the groomers. Last time he had a reaction to something so hopefully this time he doesn’t.
The White Horse Inn was built in 1780 but the facade that we see now was rebuilt in 1937 when the inn closed.
It is constructed from flint and some bricks. Flint was often used in southern England as good building stone was not available locally.
It was one of 23 pubs on the High Street which sounds a really large number but most people drank beer as the drinking water was not safe to drink.
