a lifetime burning

Spring is in the air

We woke to thick fog this morning.  Cathy had arranged for the "Tree Men" to come and give the trees and hedges their annual prune today.  We obviously wanted the work done before the birds begin their nest building activities. The current set of Tree Men seem to be pretty reliable, unlike previous iterations, and they duly turned up as promised and set too.  With three of them on the job the work was finished by early afternoon and the garden looks distinctly "tidy" as a result.

The birds didn't seem too put out by the activity.  The feeders came down for the duration of the work, and went back up afterwards.  But before I'd got around to reinstalling them it was funny to see a greenfinch landing where he expected the feeder to be only to look around and not find it.  I could almost hear the little brain saying "I'm sure that I left it somewhere around here".

There's noticeably more bird song at the moment, a sure sign that the days are starting to lengthen at last.  The dunnock was sitting at the far end of the garden on a fence, partially in shade, so not a great picture, but the only one I managed today.
