Bay of Fires

Spent the morning in ‘The Gardens’ (Bay of Fires) famous for its orange, lichen covered, granite boulders. Surprised to learn that its name didn’t derive from those colours, but was given by English explorer, Capt. Tobias Furneaux, in 1773,, when he saw numerous Aboriginal fires burning, as he sailed along the coast.
AnotherTasmanian East coast gem. We then took the long drive inland to Deloraine ( nr Launceston) which will  be our base for the next few days.
