Ventnor and ses environs
The day started with the most amazing, multicoloured sunrise that looked almost Munch like out of the sitting room window as I drank my first cup of tea.
Pottered around and took the dog for a walk before setting off for the Isle of Wight by train, a hop and a skip onto the Fast Cat across to Ryde. We then drove through the centre of the Island for lunch at the Smoking Lobster in pretty little Ventnor. I haven’t been to Ventnor much and it was wild like Cornwall with the kind of gabled sea side villas that showed how popular it was in the Victorian era. There are two remaining bathing machines although they look so restored as to be new.
Lunch was lovely although we were the only people in the restaurant and JC is allergic to fish (hollow laugh given he lives in Bembridge). After we walked round to Steephill Cove which must be charming and folksy in the summer but even on this lovely day was quite empty. The coast is eroding and there has been a lot of landslides off the cliffs (favourite sign, ‘Landslide Recreation closed’). Sprinted back to catch the return ferry.
Useful day discussing work, whilst walking and having a nice lunch.
