Tuesday: Red Cabbage
Mild and wet this morning, temperature around 10°C all day, drizzly rain with a low mist coming in from the sea towards the end of the morning whilst the tide was in. Mist covered the land between us and the beach, also covered our little mountain too :-( very wet and miserable, I was doing my best to feed the birds all day so that they had full tummies before the long night.
MrD has enjoyed my “experimental” pickled red cabbage so much the last 2 nights (with homemade cheese pie) that I decided to make a very large jar with the remaining cabbage. It has been sliced finely and is now being salted to remove any excess water. I’d used my leftover pickled onions vinegar in first cabbage batch, this is cider vinegar with some honey, generous teaspoonful of mixed dried spices, all warmed up together then left to cool, the cider vinegar is the cloudy type with the “mother” included …
Watched the last episodes of Monty Don’s British Gardens, it’s been quite an eye-opener and very enjoyable.
