Neapolitan playing cards

The main shot shows a detail from my mother's Neapolitan playing cards. During my childhood they weren't often used but later in life my mum taught me how to play Scopa ("broom"). The aim was to sweep the table of cards, which she did masterfully. There are 40 cards in a deck and the suits are coppe (cups), bastoni (clubs), denari (coins) and spade (swords). This particular pack is around 80 years old, and was manufactured in Treviso, northern Italy.

The first extra shows the card in full. The second extra shows the aces of the four suits in the above order.

Thank you to laurie54 for hosting Mono Monday "Old."
