Health Connections Charity Shop…

Or one of them anyway because they have another shop in Smith Street.
This is the charity I support and I popped in today with a couple of things. One was my walking stick which could have caused me no end of injuries! When I had my hip replacement I was told I would need crutches and as mobility improved a walking stick. Crutches were no problem because I still have my blue ones from when I had foot surgery though I have to admit I wanted to ring the changes and fancied a pair in pink but sadly I couldn’t find any :-/ I took a lot of care choosing the walking stick because I didn’t want anything that could vaguely look old ladyish. I seriously considered one of those flash glass ones that come in a myriad of colours but wasn’t sure whether it was practical so sadly dismissed the idea.
But the walking stick idea wasn’t practical anyway because I kept tripping over it and thought I’d end up with a serious injury.
But I wonder now whether all I needed was a demonstration to show how I should be walking/using it. Maybe there’s a knack and if I conquered the knack I could have one of these flash glass ones. Then I thought about the practicalities; how can I walk around town with my phone at the ready to grab a blip if I have a walking stick. And even worse it would give me the stigma of looking old and I can’t have that!

And on a totally different subject; my RA means I can’t get my shoes on so have to stick to my trusty flashy Crocs which I love. But they’re not practical in winter because although my feet don’t get cold my heels crack. So I dived into the Coop Pharmacy for some Flexitol rescue heel balm which hopefully will rescue my poor heels. RA is a pest again here because I couldn’t open the flip bit at the top. And when I tried to squeeze out some cream I didn’t have the strength. Then I had the light bulb moment. I hadn’t taken the little foil cover off! Now that IS a sign of getting old…
