Snow Along Our Route
We were up at 6:00. Hubby did one more sweep of waste baskets, compost items and put them in outside receptacles. While outside in boots, he filled feeders and the heated birdbath. I put a small pan of seeds on the back porch. I made breakfast, packed the cooler, cleaned the kitchen and watered my plants one more time. Hubby finished loading the car and we were on our way by 8:30. It was 25°F when we left and the temps did not get above freezing along our route. The air was bitingly cold whenever we got out of the car. Traffic was relatively light and we encountered no issues. I slept part of the time so I may have missed even better scenery. The river’s edge along the Potomac had a thin layer of ice. The middle of the expanse was choppy. The original plan was for us to pick up a pizza and enjoy it in our suite this evening. We had enough homemade soups and salad ingredients that I packed them for dinner. We stopped at a pizzeria for lunch. When we got near Virginia Tech, the trees were covered in melting ice crystals. Our car windows were messy so I partially opened the window and took a quick shot. It doesn’t begin to capture the beauty. Of course, it wouldn’t be a realistic collection without including a shot of the ugly snow piles at the edge of the highway. We arrived at tonight’s hotel around 4:00. It is a converted warehouse and it is quite authentic. The outside walls are original brick, the ceilings are open floor joists and the floors in the hallways are the original wide planks. The baths and furnishings are new and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. We haven’t taken a tour of the entire building yet. The breakfast area is beautiful and spacious though. There is a train track across the street and we’ve enjoyed one train going through town already. We will definitely stay here again if the prices remain competitive. See extra of what we have seen so far of the building. We are supposed to get more of the white stuff tomorrow. I hope we will be close to our next hotel before it gets nasty. We are 164 miles from our destination. We drove 300 miles today. Wishing you a warm and cozy evening. Stay safe. Thanks for your frequent visits, stars and fine comments.
