Birthday Tony

The plan today was breakfast in bed for Tony, opening of birthday cards and a leisurely come round until it was time to go out to Betty's for lunch using our Christmas vouchers from Pinkdragen and P.  The weather put the kibosh on the birthday cards arriving as we haven't had a delivery all week and we couldn't get the car out to drive to Betty's, so on this lovely, sunny, very cold morning we did a couple of jobs then layered up and walked down to the town for lunch at the Craft Cafe, next best thing.

It was beautiful in the Estate but tricky walking in places and we had to stay clear of the Estate road which shone in the sunlight with the ice.  A log delivery truck was inching its way very slowly in reverse, being unable to get up the hill and the driver wary of the drop off to the side.

We passed a woman who we both thought was S, but she wasn't, who gave us useful positive information about the lane down to the ford, so we decided to go that way and, apart from a few glossy sections, it was relatively easy going.  We diverted alongside the football field to miss out the slippery snicker and entered the park.  I think it's unlikely Parkrun will be going ahead this coming Saturday but we shall wait to make the decision tomorrow.  On the way through we paused to chat with regular park runner B and then regular park runner J ran past us.  We warned him about the state of the park but I think he probably knew about it already.

We managed to secure a table in a very busy Craft Cafe from where I spotted our ex milkman A who I had already chatted with earlier in the week.  The door opened and in came parkrunner M who stopped for a quick chat before taking to her table!  A popular day for people spotting!
Tony ordered the Cumberland sausage ring roll and I tried the Veggie Hash with harissa fried egg, a new addition to the menu and very nice too.  We also had large pieces of cake to finish, after all it was a birthday day!

Lunch over, we got up to pay and another park runner came through the door and said hello!

We called in to Hedgehog Organics to pick up a few things before heading home a slightly different route to our outward journey and calling in to the garden centre for mealworms for the robins who are struggling on the feeders (thank you JeanneB53).

Whilst still in our outdoor clothes, we called in on neighbour M with some shopping and Tony went round and bled her radiators ahead of the expected plunge in temperatures overnight tonight.  The forecast is for -13!!
